Rosengård: Why they look like Damallsvenskan title challengers once again
Scandinavia has always been a strong area of the world when it comes to the women’s game, with many star names hailing from the region and success oozing throughout its rich history.
On the domestic side of things, one of the most decorated clubs is Rosengård, who have won a record 13 Damallsvenskan titles and who have seen some of the world’s best don their shirt at one time or another.
It is for this reason that last season’s seventh-placed finish came as such a surprise, with them struggling for results throughout the 2023 Swedish top flight campaign and ending it a long way outside the title fight.
However, that was then and this is now and they have clearly reflected on what went wrong, with them entering the 2024 season with renewed vigour and a desire to prove that it was simply a one-season blip, and the early signs have been very promising in that regard.
A campaign to forget
Before looking at their positive start this time around, it is important to first gain a clearer picture of just how far Rosengård fell last time out, and what really hindered them in many ways was their laboured approach to matches, particularly when it came to transitional periods as they looked to play risk-free football and to not give their opponents any opportunities to gain possession.
