Bristol City v Brighton: How the former can stifle the latter in their WSL basement clash
After an international window of huge significance for so many, attention turns swiftly back to the domestic scene this weekend as players refocus on their club’s aims and bid to either win titles, secure league position or simply to retain their current divisional status.
In the WSL, it looks very much like things will go down to the wire, particularly at the top but also at the bottom, where there is still a lot of hope among fans of Bristol City that their side can defy the expectations of many and avoid an immediate return to the Championship. To do so though, they will need to start picking up more points and quickly, beginning with this weekend’s visit of second-bottom Brighton and Hove Albion to Ashton Gate.
Brighton’s issues
It might feel like an insurmountable task for them, but they will draw hope from the fact that they are at home and that Brighton, like them, have been struggling for form, with them hoping to move up the table after avoiding the drop last time out but ending up once again in a relegation dogfight.
When looking at the reasons for their lack of progression, they have largely been the same as last season, with too many mistakes being made around the pitch (particularly in defence where they have regularly invited opposing pressure) and a lot of poor play as they have struggled to implement the game plan that has been set out for them each week.
