Amy Rodgers: What she could bring to the Scotland squad
When Amy Rodgers left Liverpool in 2021, following their relegation to the Championship at the end of the curtailed previous campaign, there weren’t many who knew about her or her game, with the midfielder not featuring too often for the club and mostly being used as an impact player from the bench.
However, since moving to London City Lionesses that same summer, she has really stepped up to become arguably the first name on the team sheet, and the development and improvement in her individual play has really stood out as they have fought for promotion in both of the last two campaigns.
It is for that reason that some have been left surprised by her never getting a move back to the WSL and not being looked at by England, although the latter is understandable due to Sarina Wiegman having a settled squad and one that has achieved success.
However, the point still remains that Rodgers is a talent that they have not used, and that has allowed Scotland to step in and to tempt her into looking north of the border for opportunities on the international stage, with her receiving a first call-up to Pedro Martínez Losa’s squad in the last week ahead of their upcoming friendlies with Northern Ireland and Finland.

On the question of what Scotland will be getting with Rodgers, there are a number of qualities that instantly come to mind, with her showing constantly for London City a wide range of passing, an ability to read the game and an exceptional spatial awareness.
